The doom of my 31 birthday is fast approaching and I was in need of some levity to the situation – seems how it’s just an number and all! Monday.... hell of a way to spend one 7th of your life!
Not much to write about - just haven't updated in almost a month! Time flies!
Here is the condensed version:
*Halloween was grand - kids loved it and we had a fabulous time! Hopefully I'll get a picture up!
*work is work - new boss, same job
*Ryan is busy (as always) and hunting is more than a month away from finishing!
*Sarah was sick for a week or more but is well on the mend and eating us out of food daily ;) Love to see this!
I am sure there is a lot more, just can't think of it now...

Vacation Day
I have 7 vacation days that need to be used before the end of the year, along with a couple days of overtime hours that I get time off for, so I took today... nothing special - just a day that extends into a weekend is always a bonus.
I have fun with these extra days - I get to NOT jump in the shower at 6am and NOT run out the door at 7! Sarah and I are still in our pj's at 7:25am and I can actually drink my 1/2 cup of coffee as opposed to pour it and let it get cold. Bradin is ready to go to school with no stress on the rest of us - no last minute "wheres my lunch/homework/bag/socks" etc, he is at this moment dressed and fed, teeth brushed and his bag ready by the door and enjoying a couple minutes of a cartoon before he runs for the bus - there is peace in my house at this moment. He'll be off the bus by 2:00pm (because its Friday and there is some new rule about kids not going all day on a Friday - BS) and I will be here... this is different! He can come in the door and unpack his bag and get homework done BEFORE the rush of dinner and bedtime routine... it's nice to have these days and I wish there was an easier answer to have more of them... cloning? If I could just be in two places at one time this would solve the whole work mom/stay home mom deal... hmmm - Ryan would have to contend with 2 wifes... prabably wouldn't fly unless one was a stepford! lol! Just another point in the whole "drama" of working moms - we feel we need to be home more (at least I do) and stay at home moms feel they don't provide income? From what I gather its one of those grass is always greener deals. There is no easy answer I guess... but I am no expert either.
Onto something more fun - girls night out! I had a fan-friggen-tastic evening out with a group of ladies last night. It the was annual Breast Cancer fanudraiser in Pincher Creek which means upwards of 600 woman + fashion show + belly dancers + wine on the table = a great night out that usually raises $50 to $60 thousand dollars! Its a fun time and a wonderful cause!

Pity Party
So I am in a mood today... life is same as always - no real bad things happening... just one of those days that are in need of a pity party. I have poured a glass of red wine, indulged in chocolate cheesecake from the worlds best bakery and now I am venting all my ridiculous "issues" on my blog before slipping into a great book about the Holocaust (cause lets face it - even if I had big problems, they are NOT hiding in an attic to save my life kind of problems!)... some people sing, some dance to lift their spirits - I indulge my obnoxious behaviours of poor me and get over it by morning... but that's morning - tonight is my pity party and I'll pout if I want to! Pouting is a nice start - followed by stomping, growling and the occasional crying episode if the case requires it. Crying isn't required today - just pouting and growling (and wine and cheesecake! But, I could do wine and cheesecake while I am in a GREAT mood too!)
Why I am upset isn't all that important, aren't you suppose to ask yourself "in 5 years will this matter?"... and it won't - right now, yes, it matters! Hence the pity party! The usual culprits, snow is on the ground too early - I work too many hours - I am tired when I get home... blah blah barf! I am boring myself even typing it! There are a few others. but nothing worth writing for the world to see.
Okay - so heres the deal -- tomorrow is a new day/today is a gift, that's why its called the present (those kinda contradict don't they?) But, alas, my book is calling to me... I will be looking at the world with fresh eyes by morning!

Monday Blahs...
Alarm went off at 5:40am - exactly an hour and 10 minutes after I fell back asleep thanks to a 3am wake up from a little on... do they EVER sleep through the night? Honestly! This time was legitimate, Sarah was cold and needed more blankets.. fair enough - it was the next hour of begging me to stay in her little bed that kept me up.
Bradin is sick (again), bad cough, sore throat and runny nose - he still wanted to go to school (god forbid he not see his friends). I woke up with a runny nose and sore throat - I am in denial that I am sick... too much to do! Managed a 10 minute walk this morning on the treadmill, a slow one, but did it - feeling a little stiff this morning - tomorrow should be fun!
Did I mention I dislike Mondays?

Table Hike
So I made it! It was great - just Ryan and myself (and of course the 3 legged dog who Ryan had to carry the last good pull up the shale!) Had a nice afternoon with the hubby ... blog more later - gotta run! (or limp!)
Sunday Again
It was in interesting week - hopefully there is a story developing that I can elaborate on later in the week.
Thinking of what to do today - house work (other than laundry) is done, baking done, meals planned... I got the bright idea to climb a mountain today - we would have to leave little one with grandparents. I have attempted Table Mountain 3 times? Don't make the top usually because I have the added weight of a toddler on my back - we'll see.... Bradin isn't feeling that well and I don't know if he wants to come. Sunny today - brrr cold though, coldest so far (it is -3 this morning)but its sunny and not windy - yesterday was brutal! It was warm but 80km hr winds... I'll take a cooler day over a windy one anytime.
Had a close friend finish an amazing task yesterday - she ran 21km! That's farther than I drive to work! She'd been training for a year and is such an inspiration! I think its really cool that she stuck with it and finished!
Hopefully blog more later!

Bradin's Party
Well I thought I was doing well planning Bradin's 9th birthday- usually go all out with a theme party, home made pinata and such... Bradin informed me he wanted to keep it low key this year (being 9 it isn't cool to have you mom plan a great party). So I rented the local pool - called last week and booked private pool time and the concession room to do cake and such - made the invites on the weekend - Bradin handed them out on Monday (I don't even know who's coming, no one ever thinks you mean it when its an RSVP). Today I happen to be talking to the woman who works in the recreation department about work related stuff and mention that I am having Bradin's party at the pool next weekend - she says "your not in the book..." gulp! Then says "someone else has it booked for 3pm!" AAAAHHHH! She looked into the situation and apparently the person who took my booking only wrote it on the calendar and not in the booking book! Luckily we could switch things around - so the kids are doing presents and cake first - followed by swimming... grrrrr... this was not the plan! And to beat all hell its now a semi-private booking! Grrr! I wouldn't care about the semi part - but it'll be open swim and full of a bunch of other kids (usually teenagers) hogging toys... grrrr! Well - there are far worst things to happen in life, just my upset for the day.
I think everything else is done for the party - seems how the kids are eating right away at 3 I am not going to bother doing hotdogs.. just cake and icecream - that and I don't feel comfortable stuffing the kids sick and then dropping them in the pool (probably a safety thing). Instead of grab bags (too uncool for 9) I am filling small bags with cotton candy to send them home with! Less work for me and the kids will love it!

Lazy Sunday
Not much to blog about today - its raining and harvest is done! Yay! This means that Ryan's 14 to 16 hour days are shortened a little! So today is laundry/cleaning/planning meals etc. I made cookies yesterday for a hike we were taking - wasn't thinking and put nuts in them... they are now eliminated from daycare and school (grrrr).. so I need to bake again today - and Ryan needs a meal to feed the crew tomorrow so I am thinking slow cooker anything!
Had a nice "End of Harvest" brunch with the family at a restaurant this morning - all 17 of us (only 10 of them are adults)! Everyone did well and we left once Sarah started getting antsy... thank you buffet!
Looking forward to the week - I think it could turn out to be an interesting one!

Hunting Season - Day 1
This morning was an experience... every hunting season I become a widow – which means Ryan is gone at a god awful hour (this morning 4:30am) and I am left to get the myself and the kids ready and fed before 7:00am.... my challenge for the day!
4:30am Ryans’ alarm goes off – I of course wake up thinking its for me... attempt to go back to sleep
5:00am wake up panicked thinking I have slept in
5:30am my alarm goes off... grudgingly drag my butt out of a warm bed and into a shower (never mind a workout today – no time)
6:00am dressed/hair done/getting makeup finished when I hear “mommmmmyyyyyyy, my lonely!” – go into Sarah’s room and carry her to my bed. She proceeds to inspect everything on my dresser and ask if she can try it.... I juggle things out of her hands while trying to get my eye makeup on not crocked.
6:15am attempt to wake up growling 8 year old by coaxing him out of his out of his cocoon with promise of oatmeal... instant oatmeal – its a treat at my house – full of sugar but it’ll do when I have to prepare breakfast... Ryan is the breakfast maker in the relationship, usually the kids get bacon and eggs – not during hunting season – hot cereal or cold – those are the choices! I am missing Ryan at this point
6:30am sitting down to breakfast with the kids – Sarah chose oatmeal but is drooling over my cherries instead... I give in... “Just eat – we need to go!” Bradin finishes and looms over the mini donuts on the counter - I give in – kids love mornings with mom... ha ha.
6:45am time to start packing up and leaving – realize neither kid is dressed or brushed their teeth... I am not missing Ryan at this point as much as I am growling that he isn’t here to help
7:00am suppose to be leaving – Bradin has taken over the bathroom while his 3 year old sister yells through the door “I need to brush my teeth!” we need a second bathroom – proceed to interrupt his progress and use the sink to brush Sarah’s teeth and notice that Bradin has chosen to wear yesterdays underwear... growl at him to go change -questions why boys do this – question why I have children – picture Ryan enjoying his morning watching the sun come up from wherever in the forest he is.. its probably quiet there – question marriage (lol)
7:04am actually getting to the car – see my father in law who makes a comment about the ominous clouds over the mountain where the hunters are “wonder if their getting rained on?” he says -I yell back “HOPE SO!”... gonna be a long season – its only opening day!
7:34am Sarah dropped off at daycare/hugs and kisses are done/at my desk mildly late and ready to start the day.... is it bedtime yet?

Another day... at least its not a Monday!
Today is going to be a great day – it was one of those mornings where I actually had my sh*t together! The alarm went off at 5:40am and I didn’t just roll over and growl... by 7:00am I had worked out, showered, dressed (complete with hair and makeup), fed myself and 2 children and managed to make it out the door on time with lunches and my purse! It was a great morning! Sarah was happy and chirping away in the backseat on our drive and didn’t fuss when I dropped her off at the daycare... I love these mornings! However, there are plenty that don’t go as smoothly – but I’ll savour today’s moments!
The week has been really good and its half way done – there is some news but seems how this lil’ blog of mine is public domain I don’t think I’ll be sharing it quite yet. Hopefully more news to follow in a few weeks! .... and it has nothing to do with babies!
This of course is the only thing that could possibly be going on with a woman of child baring age (sarcasm)! That’s my grrrr for the day – anytime I say “guess what?!” or am excited about something I get a response of “your pregnant?!”... no! Yes baby talk has been happening in my house – but that’s not new, that’s been since before we had Sarah! Ryan is hell bent on 3 – I am content with 2 – here lies the dilemma! I am still at the point where I cringe when I see maternity clothes (but there is still a bin of them in my basement), I love seeing and holding babies but don’t feel the need to do it again (yet if at all). So we are at a crossroads at home over the baby discussion – Ryan says his plans to change my mind are either bribery or sabotage! We’ll see how that goes (lol) !

Day In the City
Okay so Lethbridge isn't exactly a huge city - but compared to Pincher Creek its huge! Bradin and I had a blast. Everything went fine at the pediatrician then we got in some shopping and some sushi... he was so much fun at the restaurant!
So tonight has been dinner/dishes/plan for tomorrow/ lunches - then a quick run down below to feed the cows. Sarah went with Ryan on the tractor for a bit and then she'll come with B and me to karate (basically a regualr relaxing night)... which means I am again missing class. It looks like the time has come I have to admit that I can't keep going to class - its just getting too hard to shuffle her around so that I can go. Bradin still has a passion for it so he's still registered but I think my karate days are done for a while :(

Day Off
Monday - usually I term I grumble about but I am actually off today! Sad that I am excited about a day off... only because I am off to take Bradin to the pediatrician (he's fine - just a check up). Rest of the day should be nice- its sunny and beautiful out again! I love Septembers like this! The leaves are already changing which could mean an early winter - YUCK! I don't like the cold, or the wind... hmmm - Southern Alberta eh? Great choice ;) My brain is still a little foggy this morning - I am sure I'll think of something a little more entertaining to blog later!

Hiking with the kids
We actually managed to spend a few hours off the farm... but not out of cell service! Had a nice time with the family - wore the kids out so once we got back from the usual Sunday afternoon grocery run they are vegging in front of a movie revving up for another week!
Sunday Already?
So its Sunday morning which usually means plan meals for the week/grocery shopping/baking for lunches and of course the inevitable laundry... rest of the house is done (thank you swifter wet jet!). Today will thankfully be a little different - after the hiking with the girls yesterday I told Ryan I wanted to go with the kids today, and a luckly surprise that he can actually take part of a Sunday morning off of farming to come!
So that's the plan - plan being the key word - plans change here a lot! Hoping that this will work out for today, its sunny and calm out (doesn't happen much around here in September!) I think we are going up to our 1/4 and take a look at the berry situation and take in some nice weather.. then its home and back to routine. Hope to post pictures of our adventure later!

Why Friends are Important
So seems how this is my own little (non private) diary... here we go. It has come to my attention that even grownups need play dates! I have friends - 134 according to facebook (lol). I have work friends that make my Monday to Friday life of mundane tasks not only bearable but enjoyable... I have online friends that add joy to my life with a simple email to say "hi"... I have family that I share my life with and enjoy their company and children... and I have a once a month group of ladies that force me to schedule time away from reality and into the world of "hanging out". We make it a point that once a month we all get together WITHOUT KIDS AND HUSBANDS. It is important for our sanity and our souls... today it was also great for our thighs! The 8 of us went on a 3 hour hike and a picnic - it was wonderful and reminded me why it is important to do things outside of the family unit. I walked and talked about kids and life - I listened and consoled others - it was great! I highly recommend it. As women (working out of the home or not) we tend to give so much of ourselves to everyone else that there isn't anything left for just us! This needs to change - this is a challenge that I take on myself... and to anyone else who is interested. I don't care if its 10 minutes in a bubble bath or reading a book locked in a closet - take time for yourself - schedule that time like you would a dentist appointment... may not be a possible or wanted thing at that time but you'll be glad that you did it!
Day 1
well - the theme for this whole project is about time... and never having enough! I know - funny seems how I am wasting more time writing a blog!
hopefully add more later - gotta run!
I guess I need to be a little more specific - this blog isn't about the whole working mom vs stay at home mom issue.... I dont' proclaim to be an expert on either side - this is more just my way to vent about things I know about - my life - no one elses.
This whole thing started after I read an interesting article on ways to improve life.. don't get me wrong, I have a wonderful life and not a whole lot to complain about, it is just, well, routine. Routine is a wonderful thing, I have structure and know what to do with each day. I plan out the weeks worth of meals on Sundays so I know what each day brings - routine is a must with 2 kids a 40(plus) hour a week job a farm and a business... my life demands routine and structure. But a lot of this wonderfulness of routine leads to ruts - not good. Anyway, this article stated that you need to try new things and do something fun and exciting! I refuse to take up scrapbooking (to time comsuming), I've done the painting thing and the sewing thing, reading is a great outlet but I need something more creative -- I am capable with the whole computer thing so there we are - a blog!
